The Law of Love
By Margie Marang

“Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him and saying ‘Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?’  Jesus said to him,’ you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all you mind; This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like it; you shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 22:35-40).

We can see the law consists of Love.  Love God, Love your fellow man. What’s your reason for keeping the Law of God?  Is it just to be justified?  Do you think that makes you right with God?

Read Romans 3:20-24 and Galatians 2:16.

The Bible tells us what sin is. Jesus said, “If you love me, “Keep my Commandments” (John 14:15). Just keeping the physical commandments will gain nothing with God. The reason one keeps the law is it gives direction for living a holy life. Keeping the law shows respect for God and for fellowman. Keeping His law gains one everything.

What do little children like to do?  Little children like to please their fathers. “Then Jesus called a little child to Him.  Set him in the midst of them, and said,” Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the Kingdom of Heaven’” (Matthew  18:2-3).

Before conversion one isn’t trying to please your Heavenly Father.  After conversion and baptism and the receiving of God’s Holy Spirit you will become like the little child and you’ll want to please your Heavenly Father. Because we are His children, God loves us so much He doesn’t want a one of us to miss out on eternal life. So He gives us to Jesus Christ to take care of us.

Read Hebrews 2:11-13, John 17:1-2 and 1 John 3:1-3.

Who sanctifies?  Jesus Christ.
Who’s being sanctified? That’s us.

God loves us so much He gives us to Jesus to take care of us, so we won’t loose out on Eternal life. “All that the Father gives me will come to me, and the one who comes to me I will by no means cast out.  For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.  This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day” (John 6:37-39).

God doesn’t even think we sin because of what Jesus Christ has done. “Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him”  (1 John 3:6). “By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us because He has given us of His Spirit” (1 John 4:13). So let us be sure we keep those two great commandments in mind.

Love God with all your heart, your soul and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. If we do this there is no way we can miss out on the Kingdom of God. i
