Is there a relationship between illness and sin? If I am sick, am I being punished? These are questions I have personally dealt with in my own experience with illness. Everyone experiences illness to one degree or another.
The word healing often brings up images of sickness, depression, diseases, hopelessness, and the like, which have been associated with humanity for years. Words and phrases that illustrate this fact are found in the Collins English Dictionary. Phrases such as “to restore” or “be restored to health” are among the various definitions associated with the word healing.
Prayer is the most important tool a Christian has available to use. With it, one can ask for protection, guidance, instructions in life, one’s daily needs, help for others, and especially for healing. I witnessed this heavenly miracle (healing) with my youngest daughter forty years ago.
Many in our church tradition believe we should only confess our sins to God because there is one mediator between man and God and that is Jesus Christ (1 Timothy 2:5). I agree there is one mediator, but what do we do with James 5:14-16?
I was five when my mother died of infection after a miscarriage. My nightmares had started shortly after her death. I didn’t know then how my mother had died. I just knew she was gone. I missed her so much. The nightmares were so real; they were etched on my mind so deeply that I can never forget them.
