He Exists
By Emmanuel Donkor
“I don’t believe
God exists.”
“I don’t believe God created the heavens and the planet we
love and call earth.”
Does that sound familiar? Perhaps you may have made one of these statements in one form or the other some years ago. Whatever the answer is, there is no denying the fact that there are many people in the world who do not believe that there is an authority, a Creator who created the world we live in today, which includes you and me. Or like many skeptics, you are willing to believe in His existence only when it is proven to you scientifically that God created the cosmos. Perhaps the activities of those who believe in God have turned you off to the whole “God thing.”
Well, my duty is not to demonstrate, using all the scientific methods in the world, to you that there is a God. I will simply try to use everyday life situations to prove that these events are not coincidence but rather part of a strategy orchestrated by the Person who created the earth.
We would start with our very lives. How is our body formed? We know that when a man (husband) and a woman (wife) come together intimately, a seed from the man is deposited inside the womb of the woman and this pretty much begins the process of reproduction. However, nobody knows exactly how the process takes place until nine months when the baby is ready to be introduced into the world. Have you thought for a minute why this process occurs? Why do we often crave to have children? Well, this is what our Designer designed us for; to procreate and “subdue the earth.” The desire of the Creator was for us to exercise authority over everything He has created—the birds in the sky, the rich flora and fauna we are surrounded with, and so on. And that is where the concept of power and authority comes from. Unfortunately those who have used this authority have used it wrongly to dominate fellow man to the point of destruction. That is perhaps the reason why many people do not believe in God. They have seen human beings use the power God gave us and which is supposed to rule over the other created things to put his fellow man under oppression and colonialism. This is unfortunate—something God would like to reverse.
Take, for instance, the air that we breathe. Surely, it did not evolve millions of years ago as evolutionists would have us believe? We would all die if we did not have enough oxygen to breathe in. And even when the air is not the right air—one contaminated with toxic chemicals or perhaps radiation from an atomic bomb—we would all die. That is how important it is. Yet have we paused and asked ourselves where it came from? It surely did not come from nowhere. The best thing about air is that we do not pay anything for it. We breathe in a limitless quantity into our bodies and that helps our bodies function properly. God created air for our benefit and just as He gives it to us freely, He is a generous God who gives us everything we need to make our life worth living.
Let me also say that one characteristic of God is giving His created beings freedom of choice. He has given us so many choices that some of us have chosen not to believe in Him.
Why did He do all these things for us? God did this because He loves us. There is no greater love than God giving His only begotten Son to die on our behalf, because of our fallen nature, so that we will occupy the high seat in His scheme of things. It seems like a funfair but that is only because we remembered Him as someone who gave His all for us even when we did not deserve it. We may choose to believe or not believe in Him, but the fact is He continues to love all of humanity.
I could go on and on and on! His heartbeat is for all mankind to come to know him and enjoy the riches in Him. His presence and His works are all over us, whether it be the birds singing, the various seasons, or even the “little” things like how plants or weeds grow. Do not be a sceptic, because He exists and will do so for all eternity.
