YourStory

Below is a story written in segments by many youth
who have visited and contributed to SKY. Enjoy!

Tucked away in a small village there sat a house. In this house there was a lady, who went by the name Ms. Birdie. Ms. Birdie sat in her favorite chair, pondering the happenings of the day when there was a knock at the door.

She opend the door. It was a colporter! He asked Ms. Birdie if she was interested in anything.
"Sure," she said. "What do you have?"
"I have some children Bedtime Stories by Uncle Arther, Great Contiversies, Steps to Christ, some coloring books for chidren & some healthful cooking hints."
"Sure, I'd like one of each!"
"OK, here you go. That will be $30.39 please."
"Here you go. Have a nice day."
"You too!! Bye, Enjoy your books!"
-Farrah, age 10

Ms. Birdie sat back down into her chair and wondered which book she should start with.

She started the healthful cooking hints.
-David, age 7

As Ms. Birdie was reading the healthy cook book she found an envolope that had no name on it. Ms. Birdie thought that it wouldn't hurt for her to open it and see what was in it. She found a picture of a very beautiful woman that happened to look just like her when she was a little girl. She turned the picture over and on it was written her name.
-Jennifer Long, age 13

A tear started to come down her face, she didn't know what to do.

Then she remembered she has a twin. So she called her sister and told her about the picture. Then she noticed that on part of the envolope it said, "1946." She told her sister. Her sister said, "I was in California then, it couldn't have been me. Ms. Birdie looked back at the picture. It looked just like the house she grew up in. " I wonder if the house is still there." she said. She told her sister goodbye, and hung up the phone.
-Beth, age 11

So then she sat down again and remembered that she was going to mow the lawn.
-David, age 8

But she remembered that it was the Sabbath, so she did not mow the lawn. Instead she read the Bible. After she read for an hour she read a Sabbath story to her children. She had five children. Then she took a nap. After that she went to church. After she went to church she went to see the sick people. Then she went home. One of her children was asking if she would clean the dishes. She said No! It is the Sabbath and on the Sabbath you do not WORK!.
-Sarah, age 8

She then went looked some more at her books. When she looked at the book of dogs. She was thinking of getting a dog. Maybe the smallest dog on earth. As she was fliping through the book, she saw a piece of paper and it had her name on it.
-David, age 8

It said:
Dear Ms. Birdie,
I miss you so much. I want to see you again. When I moved away I thought that I should tell my mom that I should visit you. When I did, my mom said, "Why should you visit that girl when you can find new friends. NO WE ARE NOT GOING TO VISIT HER. OK?" I said ok. I miss you.

Signed,
Your Friend
-Sarah, age 8

Ms. Birdie thought the letter odd, but went back to thinking about getting a dog.

"A dog is not such a good idea if I already have a cat." she thought. "No, I am content with what I have. I do not need another pet. But maybe tomorrow I could volunteer at the homeless shelter for dogs and cats."
She sat down in her big comfy chair and began to read the Bible.
"Mommy, Mommy, Mommy!" shouted one of her little boys. "Can I go ride my bike?" Now this little boy, was only two and a half, and knew not of it being the Sabbath.
"Now, Joseph, come here and sit down on my lap." And the little boy did what he was told. "Let me read you a story about the Sabbath, and why it is so special."
-Lizzy, age 12

I'll read you Genesis 2:1-3.
Verse 1
"Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them."
Verse 2
"And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made."
Verse 3
"And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made."
-David, age 8

After she was done it was dark. They all went to bed. The next day she went back to the letter. She said, "I had lots of friends that went away." Next she looked at the other books. She saw another letter for her.
-Sarah, age 8

When she looked at the letter it said,

April 11th
Dear Ms.Birdie,
Would you like to go to the fair on Monday, April 16th?

From,
Person
-David, age 9

Ms. Birdie began to wonder, "How do all these people know my name and write these notes to me?" Ms. Birdie looked up from her book. She saw her five children peeking around the kitchen door giggling!
The oldest girl, Sara, said "Oh, Mom! Will you please take us to the fair? We didn't want to interrupt your reading, so we left the notes in your books."
"Oh, please! Can we go?!" said all the children at once.
-Autumn Morin, age 9

Ms. Birdie said, "Why would you put those notes in those books? That was mean. Because you did that we are not going to the fair." Then the youngest, Ruth, said, "Mom, please can we go? Please Mom please." Then Ms. Birdie said, "Okay, we will go, but do not do that again." All the children said, "Okay, we will not do that again." So they went to the fair.
-Sarah, age 9

At the fair, all the kids were exploring the rides and activites. As Ruth began exploring, she noticed a man standing near one of the food stands asking people for money. Ruth asked, "Mommy, why is that man doing that?"
Mark, the oldest of the children said, "Because he's nothin' but an old bum! Just ignore him."
"Don't be like that, Mrs. Bridie scolded, "how would you like it if you didn't have any money and people talked bad about you?"
-Audrey, age 19

"Well I guess I wouldn't like it," Mark said.
-David, age 9

Ruth felt sorry for the man. She took out her little purse and gave her money to the man that she had been saving.
-Sarah, age 14

"Anyone want to go on a ride or will I be on the first one?" Ms. Birdie said.
"I DO!" they all said. "I want to go on the ferris wheel." said Ruth. "Does anyone else want to?"
"I think the ferris wheel is a good idea." said Ms. Birdie.
"I'd like to go on the Swinging Pirite Ship." said Mark.
"You know I don't like that ride Mark." Ms. Birdie said. "You'll throwup on it."
"Yeah yeah whatever." Said Mark.
"Don't talk to me like that" she said. "You would and you don't want to grow up being a punk do you?"
-David, age 9

"Ok, Mother, I'm sorry. I know that was not what Jesus would have wanted me to do."
"I forgive you. Now let's all ride that ferris wheel. If you're all good, then there might be a treat in it for you guys afterwards."

With that, Mother, and her five children stepped into line for the ride. As they boarded the ferris car, one of the children pondered, "Mommy, what do you read about in those books of yours?"
In response, Mother said, "I read about Jesus. Would you like to learn more about Jesus with me? During worship, we can have a special time where I read to you from the books."
"Okay!" the children all cried enthusiastically in unison.
After the ferris wheel, they felt very tired and all went home to have worship.
-Christi, age 12
